About the books by James A Fisher

Land Of The Noble Free: A Tale of Two Timelines is written from the perspective of someone in our timeline, beginning in 1976. It remains as a standalone book with no sequel intended. The first edition of it (with a different title) was self-published in 2019. Various titles and covers have since been used, but all of them have continued the same basic storyline. In the current edition (Oct. 27, 2025), the names of characters (with one exception) were changed to ensure its distinction from the second book.

A Priceless Gift She Brings: An Alternative History originally began as a sequel to the original book but then ended up as a separate novel. It’s written from the perspective of someone from the Vinlandian alternative history who encounters someone from our timeline in 1980. This book ends with the promise of a sequel.  (See earlier section titled “Is there a Sequel?”) Both books share the same fork in the road of history and the same locations in Vinlandia. The angel Chameleon, who controls the portal between two timelines, remains an important figure in both books and any future books taking place in the alternate history of Vinlandia.

Falcon Feather of Lone Mountain: A Vinlandian Tale has identical content to A Priceless Gift She Brings. Only the title and cover image are different. It was created simply for a niche market in Stone Mountain, Georgia, for placement in local libraries and bookstores for fans and friends of Stone Mountain, where a significant portion of the story takes place

These books are based on the premise of that other fork in the road of history that began around the year 1000 AD, when Viking explorers made permanent settlements in the New World. Gradual encounters with Europeans, including gradual resistance to European diseases, precluded the onslaught of European domination of North America beginning 500 years later. Vinlandia is the name ascribed to the North American continent in the alternative history.

The author himself has no Native American blood in his veins, but simply regrets the injustices endured by Native Americans, especially in the 1800s in the wake of the Indian Removal Act of 1830.
